Road Warriors! LETU Women's Basketball Wins Fourth in a Row on the Road

The LeTourneau University women's basketball team rolled to its fourth-straight ASC road win for the first time in program history with a 66-56 win over UT Dallas on Saturday in Richardson.

LeTourneau (11-6, 7-2 ASC) led for the entire contest in the win as junior Crystal Jones scored a team-high 19 points for the YellowJackets. It was the 15th time in 16 games, the Fort Worth native has been in double figures and the 11th time that she has been the leading scorer for LeTourneau. Along with Jones in double figures was junior LaTanya Drakes, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double double. Drakes led a LETU bench that outscored UT Dallas, 26-4.

UT Dallas (8-6, 2-4 ASC) was led by Madison Steele, who had a game-high 25 points in the win. Micaela Gonzales added 13 for the Comets, who lost for the fourth-straight time.

LETU junior Ashley Crockett put the first points on the scoreboard on a put-back attempt and the YellowJackets led from start to finish. LeTourneau built an early 11-4 lead in the opening quarter and built a lead as large as 15 in the win. It was an all-around team effort for LeTourneau, who have won five of its last six on the season and two of its last three meetings in Richardson.

The YellowJackets' Ashley Stephens had a game-high 11 rebounds and junior Bria Goodman handed out a career-high seven assists in the win. Juniors Jeannine Myles and Jada Roberts added nine and seven points, respectively. LETU shot 40% from the field and held the Comets to 35% shooting in the win.

Twice, UT Dallas cut the LETU to deficit to one in the contest. Holding a 38-37 lead with 1:52 to play in the third quarter, Roberts scored seven of the final nine points of the fourth quarter to put the visitiors ahead 45-39. An 11-2 run to start the fourth quarter by the YellowJackets sealed the win and kept the home team from completing the comeback win.

The YellowJackets will come back to Longview to host Belhaven on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in a non-conference matchup. The Blazers are in the process of transitioning into full membership within the American Southwest Conference.
