Volleyball Drops Two Matches at ASC Crossover

LeTourneau volleyball dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at the ASC crossover hosted by UT Dallas in Richardson.
 
The YellowJackets played the Crusaders out of the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in the morning match. The Crusaders would jump out early hitting .367 and winning 25-15 in the first set. LETU would respond and play two tough sets but weren't able to convert down the stretch as they fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-19).
 
Savanna Stutts led the YellowJackets at the net with seven kills. Senior Dolores Henson and freshman Mikayla Thomas each put down six kills in the match. Nicole Mosley was setting up her hitters as she recorded 12 assists.

Freshman Alexis Martinez tallied five assists and five digs in her two sets of action. Liz Williams led the defense with nine digs for LeTourneau in the first match.
 
The second match of the day was a battle of the YellowJackets as LETU faced off against Howard Payne out of Brownwood, Texas.
 
The first set was an intense battle that would see 66 total points scored as LeTourneau would take the opening game 34-32 over HPU.
 
The closely contested sets would continue as LETU would take a 19-17 lead over Howard Payne before a 5-0 run would turn the momentum and give HPU a 25-22 win in set two.
 
The YellowJackets continued to battle in the third set as would go on a five-point run of their own to take a lead 13-11. HPU would chip away at the lead and take advantage of late set attacking errors to take the set 25-23.
 
Howard Payne kept the momentum going in the fourth set, winning 25-21 and taking the match 3-1.
 
The hitters came out strong for the YellowJackets as junior Elyse Wright led the way with 11 kills, Skylar Horan would add 10 and Dolores Henson would put down nine in the match.
 
Nicole Mosley recorded a season-high 27 assists to go along with 19 digs as the junior notched her fifth double-double of the season. Freshman Alexis Martinez recorded the first double-double of her career with 15 assists and 10 digs in the four sets.
 
A career-high 23 digs from sophomore Liz Williams led the YellowJackets defense.
 
The YellowJackets fall to 7-19 on the season and 0-10 in the ASC. They will make the short trip over to UT Tyler for an ASC East matchup with the Patriots on Tuesday night at 7 PM.
