YellowJacket Women Earn Victory in Jackson

LeTourneau University women's soccer earned their fourth win of the season in a 2-1 victory over Belhaven on Thursday night.

"The team really stepped up to the challenge and got us back in the win column," said head coach John Antonisse after the win. "We had two great goals and overall team effort too. We're ready to continue our improvement tomorrow."

The YellowJackets (4-5-1, 0-3-1 ASC) made the trip to Jackson, Mississippi to take on the Blazers in the first soccer match played in Belhaven Bowl Stadium. LeTourneau would spoil the housewarming party with two goals in the first half.

Junior Kennedy Keer would strike first as she got her head on a cross from teammate Kristen Wunder. The header from the Gambrills, Maryland native gave the YellowJackets the lead 1-0 in the 16th minute. It was the first goal of the season for Keer and the 10th of her career.

Just six minutes later, freshman Tamara Martin would put home the first goal of her collegiate career. The Spring, Texas native would also use her head as she was able to catch the ball off a rebound and put it past the Blazer's goalkeeper. The header put LETU up 2-0 in the 22nd minute and that would hold through the first half.

The YellowJackets outshot the Blazers 14 to 6 with LeTourneau putting seven shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Brittany Hollis made two saves in the first half on the way to her fifth win of her career.

Belhaven would score quickly out of the half to cut the lead down to 2-1 in the 48th minute. LETU would shore up the defense as the backline led by Sarah Harder only surrendered one shot on goal and two shots total the rest of the game.

The YellowJackets will be back in action tomorrow in Pineville, Louisiana as they take on Louisiana College at 5 PM.
