Antonio Fernandez led a scoring explosion for the YellowJackets with his first career hat trick in a 6-2 rout of ASC foe Louisiana College.
"It was a total team effort from start to finish," said head coach
Matthew Haesecke. "My captains Antonio and Israel were huge in tonight's win."
Fernandez started his memorable night with a goal just 26 seconds into the game as he put it over the goalkeepers head to give the YellowJackets an early 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats would respond in the 16
th minute with a goal of their own. The tie wouldn't last long as
Antonio Fernandez put home his second goal of the game off an assist from freshman teammate
Zachariah Malik in the 31
st minute.
Junior
Israel Madrid would join in on the scoring action just three minutes later as he received a ball from
David Trost and was able to put home the third goal of the half to send the YellowJackets into the break with a 3-1 lead over the Wildcats.
In the second half LeTourneau earned a penalty kick in the 59
th minute and Madrid, the Longview High School product, would make his way to the penalty spot to notch his second goal of the game and fifth of the season.
Less than a minute later,
Antonio Fernandez would complete his hat trick as he sent it to the back of the net off an assist from
Zachariah Malik; his second of the game. The hat trick for Fernandez was the first since 2006 for a LeTourneau player and the fifth career goal for the Houston, Texas native.
Hunter Swift came up from his defensive position to score a goal in the final minute. Swift was able to send a free kick into the back of the net from 25 yards out as he gave the YellowJackets their final 6-2 margin. It was the third goal of the season for the senior and eighth of his career.             Â
The six goals were the most in a game since October of 2006 for the YellowJackets as LETU won 8-1 over Concordia (TX). LETU outshot the Wildcats 24-6 in the game, putting 13 shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Patrick Barba III recorded two saves on the way to his fifth career victory in the net.
The YellowJackets return home for two ASC games next weekend as they take on UT Dallas on Friday and Howard Payne on Saturday night, both games starting at 7:30 PM.
