LeTourneau women's basketball shot just 30.6 percent (22-72) from the floor and 13.6 percent (3-22) from behind-the-arc in a 60-72 loss to the Majors on Friday afternoon.
Â
Senior
LaTanya Drakes recorded her sixth double-double of the season which ties her for the lead in the American Southwest Conference. Drakes scored 21 points to go along with 12 rebounds.
Â
The ASC's leading scorer
Crystal Jones had a tough shooting night as she was just 4 of 17 from the field and was unable to find the range going 0 for 5 from beyond-the-arc. The eight point performance from Jones was the lowest of her career.
Â
Sophomore
Karley Patterson picked up the scoring for LeTourneau as she poured in a career-high nine points on 3 of 5 shooting from the floor. Patterson also pulled down four rebounds and had two steals in her 20 minutes.
Â
The YellowJackets forced 21 Major turnovers and were able to convert those into 22 points off turnovers. Millsaps forward Kala-Jewel Freeman led all scorers with 26 points and added 10 rebounds. MC outscored LETU 32 to 24 in the paint.
Â
The Majors jumped out to a 12 point lead at the end of the first quarter with the YellowJackets shooting just 16 percent from the floor during the opening period.
Â
LeTourneau (4-5, 3-1 ASC) battled back in the second quarter thanks to a 10-0 run to take a 25-24 lead into the locker room.
Â
The LETU lead would swell to six early in the third quarter but the Majors would respond closing out the third quarter with a one-point advantage.
Â
An 11-3 Millsaps run to start the fourth would prove to be the difference and the YellowJackets couldn't overcome the deficit. Late game fouls and free throws gave the Majors a 12-point victory over LETU.
Â
LeTourneau will be back on the hardwood Monday as they host East Texas rival UT Tyler in an American Southwest Conference game to wrap up the YellowJacket action before the Christmas break. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from Solheim Arena.
