Late Run Pushes Mountaineers Over LeTourneau

The YellowJackets shot just 25 percent from the floor in the final period and Schreiner University finished on a 10-0 run to earn a 80-75 win over the LeTourneau women.
 
LETU (5-6, 4-1 ASC) got yet another double-double effort from LaTanya Drakes who finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds. The senior forward has now had eight double-double performances and is currently ranked fifth among all NCAA Division III women.
 
Crystal Jones led all scorers with a 19-point effort to go along with five rebounds. Jones leads the American Southwest Conference in scoring at 20.5 points per game with Drakes in second at 18.3 points per game.
 
Ashley Reed had a season-high nine points and played all but one minute of the game for the YellowJackets. Fellow senior Shaquicia Johnson added seven points and a career-high eight rebounds for LETU. The Bryan, Texas native had four offensive rebounds and added two assists.
 
"We have to be more consistent from game to game. We did not execute our game plan today," said head coach Leslie Reinecker. "We must do a better job of taking care of the details and playing as a team to utilize our abilities."
 
LeTourneau led by as many as 15 in the first half shooting 42.4 percent (14-33) from the floor and outrebounding the Mountaineers 26-19.

The lead would swell to 17 in the third quarter after two Karley Patterson free-throws at the 2:19 mark of the period. SU finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to cut the YellowJacket lead to 48-59.
 
LeTourneau would go cold in the final period shooting just 5 of 20 from the floor. The Mountaineers capitalized down the stretch to take their first lead of the game with 1:21 remaining on a long-range field goal by Kendall Dyal.
 
The YellowJackets will be back in Solheim Arena tomorrow for day two of the LETU Holiday Classic and a matchup with Texas Lutheran. Tip-off against the Bulldogs is set for 4 p.m.
