The LeTourneau University softball team split a doubleheader for the second-straight day with Mary Hardin-Baylor. The YellowJackets took game one, 6-5 and dropped the night cap, 2-1.

The YellowJackets (4-4, 2-1 ASC) pounded out 10 hits in the game one win – it is the third time that LETU has had double-digit hits in the young season. In all three occasions, LeTourneau has been victorious. Senior
Rachel Gauspohl, sophomore
Bailey Woodard and junior
Whitney Judd each had two hits to lead the attack. Both Gauspohl and Woodard had a home run in the win.

LETU senior
Kayla Cosby picked up the win and first complete game in her first start as a YellowJacket to improve to 3-0.
The Cru (2-4, 1-2 ASC) had nine hits in the loss and rallied to tie the game at 3 in the third inning until RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings by freshman
Kennedi Dillow and junior
Kaitlyn Allen regained the lead for the YellowJackets.

Mary Hardin-Baylor cut the LeTourneau lead to one, 5-4 in the sixth inning; then Gauspohl hit her third home run of the season to stretch the lead to 6-4. The Cru answered with a solo homer in its half of the seventh. With the tying run at the plate, Cosby got a strikeout to end the contest.

In the nightcap, Mary Hardin-Baylor scored twice in the fourth inning as they held off a multiple threats by the LeTourneau offense, who stranded seven runners on base in the 2-1 loss.

The Cru ended the scoreless game in the fourth when
Haley Rhine tripled in Hannah Parker, who had reached on a one out single for a 1-0 lead in favor of UMHB. Then, Rhine came in to score on a single by Kourtney Cummings for a 2-0 advantage.

LeTourneau mounted a threat in the sixth inning as they loaded the bases to start the inning. However, UMHB got out of the inning as they got a pair of YellowJackets runners out at the plate on back-to-back ground outs. Again, the YellowJackets had a rally in them as they started the 7
th inning with a one out double by senior
Brianna Williams. After a ground out moved her to third, she came around to score on a RBI single by senior
Megan Hill. A fly out to centerfield ended the game and comeback hopes for the YellowJackets.

Sophomore
Ashley Burdine was the losing pitcher for LETU despite allowing just five hits, two runs (both earned) and striking out two. Karen Tennis for UMHB went the distance for the Cru, striking out three and allowing four hits to improve to 2-1.

Next on the schedule for LETU is a three-game series with local rival East Texas Baptist at the Joyce Family Athletic Village. The series starts on Friday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. for 90's Night.
