LETU Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short Against Centenary College

LeTourneau University men's soccer played a very high intensity game against Centenary College (Louisiana) on Tuesday night, but came up short 1-0.

In the 5th minute the YellowJackets made an attacking run that resulted in a penalty kick after Israel Madrid was taken down in the box.
Freshman Zachariah Malik tried to place the ball to the right corner but Centenary goalkeeper Rylan Whan was able to get a glove on it and deflect the shot wide.

With nine minutes remaining in the 1st half, Centenary put a shot off the post that nearly crossed the line before a YellowJacket defender cleared it away to relieve the danger and keep the game tied.

It was a physical game with two yellow cards handed out to the YellowJackets and five given to the Gents from Centenary. Junior Jacob Malik and his younger brother Zachariah were led the YellowJacket offense as they each put a shot on goal in game.

In the 70th minute Centenary's Seth Fountain received the ball from his teammate Andre Anasi and was able to put it past goalkeeper Brian Howell for the go-ahead goal. Howell had played 274 minutes of shutout soccer until that point and made six saves in the game.

The YellowJackets take to the road for their next two games. LeTourneau will face off against Dallas Christian College on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Southwestern Assemblies of God on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. LETU will return home for a showdown with Jarvis Christian College on Wednesday, September 14th.
