YellowJackets Take Down Ozarks with Fourth Quarter Comeback

LeTourneau used a 12-2 run to take a lead after trailing the Eagles by nine midway through the fourth quarter. The YellowJackets outscored Ozarks 31-15 in the final period and return to .500 with the win at 8-8 overall and improve to 6-3 in conference play.

Crystal Jones and LaTanya Drakes combined for 24 points in the final quarter to complete the comeback and give LETU their fourth straight victory over Ozarks. Jones finished with a game-high 24 points as she continues to lead the ASC in scoring.

Drakes tallied her 11th double-double performance of the season as she pulled down 16 rebounds to go along with her 19 points. The senior forward is ranked 12th in Division III with 12.8 rebounds per game.

Senior Ashley Reed scored five of her nine points in the fourth quarter. Her backcourt mate Jada Roberts had eight assists. Shaquicia Johnson scored six points to go along with five rebounds for the YellowJackets.

"Once again, this team has found a way to win down the stretch. We started off slow offensively, but we did not get frustrated and focused on getting the job done," said head coach Leslie Reinecker after the win. "We have the ability to score quickly and we did a good job of attacking in the second half to get some great looks."

LeTourneau never led in the first half as they shot just 26.7 percent from the floor and 1-5 from three-point range. It was the lowest-scoring half of the season for the YellowJackets as they went into the break trailing 17-23.

Ozarks used a 16-2 run to extend their lead to 12 in the third quarter punctuated by a Diamond Goodwyn and-one layup and free throw. That is when the tides turned as LETU stormed back for their eighth win of the season.

The YellowJackets will return to Solheim on Saturday afternoon as they host UT Dallas in another ASC East Division battle. The Comets come in with a 12-2 overall record and undefeated in conference play (7-0). Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
