LONGVIEW, Texas – Entering postseason play for the first time since 2011, the LeTourneau University men's soccer team will take on number-three seeded Concordia University in the American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal Round in Round Rock, Texas on Tuesday, October 30th at 7 p.m.
The matchup will be the second match this season between LETU and CTX to take place in Round Rock, Texas as the Tornadoes collected a 4-1 win over the YellowJackets on September 13th. In the previous matchup, LeTourneau would manage to tie the match at 1-1 in the 74th minute before Concordia managed to reclaim the lead for good in the 79th minute.
LeTourneau will be making their fifth all-time appearance in the ASC Tournament, with the other appearances coming in 1998, 1999, 2005, and 2011. Concordia Texas is in the ASC Tournament for the fourth-straight season and will make their fourth all-time appearance in the tournament.
Both LETU and CTX have won one ASC Tournament match in school history, with the YellowJackets earning a 4-2 win over Mississippi College in the inaugural ASC Men's Soccer Tournament in 1998 to advance to the ASC Tournament Championship match. The Tornadoes picked up a 3-0 win over the University of the Ozarks in the 2016 ASC Tournament to make their only ASC Tournament Semifinal appearance.
Tuesday's winner will advance to Friday's ASC Tournament semifinal match, which will take place in Richardson, Texas on the campus of Texas-Dallas. Kickoff of the second semifinal is scheduled for 8 p.m. on November 2nd and will be against the winner of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and McMurry University.
Using a mid-season four-match winning streak to earn a bid into the eight-team tournament, LETU will be led by
Zachariah Malik and
Luis De La Torre who share the team lead with four goals this season. De La Torre has also dished out seven assists this season for a total of 15 points, with the seven assists tied for the second-most in the ASC this year. Concordia Texas will feature a potent offense led by Omar Aguirre, who leads the conference with 13 goals in 15 games this season which includes four game-winning goals. The Tornadoes are averaging 11.9 shots per match while allowing 8.9 shots per match to opponents.
