LONGVIEW, Texas - Opening up a three-match home stand, the LeTourneau University women's tennis team fell by a score of 8-1 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the Davis Tennis Courts in Longview, Texas on Monday, March 19th.
The loss leaves LETU with a 5-4 overall record while the BluGolds improved to 9-1 overall to open up their spring break trip.
All three doubles matches went in favor of UWEC, giving Wisconsin-Eau Claire a 3-0 lead heading into singles matches despite two close matches between the BluGolds and YellowJackets. The number one doubles match saw
Maddison Brackenreg and
Gracie Favela fall by a score of 9-7 while
Lauren Rockwell and
Mikayla Thomas dropped a heartbreaking 9-8 (8-3) decision. At number two doubles,
Terin Murray and
Katy Hall fell by a score of 8-2.
In singles action, Brackenreg dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision while Murray fell by a score of 6-1, 6-1 which would clinch the match for UWEC. The number three singles match saw Favela fall by scores of 6-3, 6-3 before seeing LETU earn their only point of the day with Hall earning a 7-6, 3-6 10-8 win at number four singles. Rockwell took a 6-3, 6-2 loss at number five singles while
Samantha Trevino saw action at number six singles in a 6-3, 6-0 loss.
LeTourneau will look to bounce back this evening, playing host to Texas A&M Texarkana at the Davis Tennis Courts. Originally scheduled for a 5 p.m. first serve, LETU will face off against the Eagles immediately following TAMU-Texarkana's match against Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
