LeTourneau University Homecoming And Family Weekend 2018 Recap

LONGVIEW, Texas - Celebrating LeTourneau University Athletics and all that our 17 YellowJacket athletic programs have accomplished over the years, LeTourneau University and the LeTourneau University athletic department hosted various events as part of homecoming and family weekend 2018 April 5-7.

Alumni and family members started to arrive on campus on Thursday, April 5th, with the first official festivities of the weekend starting on Friday, April 6th with an alumni chapel featuring former LETU baseball athlete Josh Swain. Plenty of fun was had at the Hootenanny Tailgate that took place on the patio of the Allen Family Student Center, with various activities being hosted for all in attendance.

The YellowJacket Athletic Department welcomed back over 50 athletics alumni and family Friday evening, hosting a reunion dinner where alumni were able to reminisce about their times at LeTourneau.

An early start on Saturday morning saw over 30 registered participants participate in the inaugural Buzz Run 5K, which was open to all participants that wanted to partake in the run. All student-athletes that were not competing on Saturday, April 7th were then able to hear from current commissioner of the Southeastern Conference Greg Sankey, who attended LeTourneau University and was a member of the 1983 YellowJacket baseball team. Mr. Sankey then allowed student-athletes to ask questions, while offering career guidance to all in attendance.

As part of homecoming and family weekend, the LETU athletic department saw the YellowJacket men's and women's tennis teams host the University of the Ozarks for senior day matches while the LETU softball team also took on Ozarks for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday. The LeTourneau University baseball team was scheduled to host Sul Ross State University on Friday and Saturday, but had their series moved to Sunday and Monday due to weather.

Homecoming would be wrapped up Saturday evening, with the Blue and Gold Banquet, where all alumni in attendance were honored, with special recognition given to athletic alumni and "Golden Jackets" (Those celebrating their 50-year reunion). The featured speaker for the Blue and Gold Banquet would be Greg Sankey, who was able to speak about his time at LeTourneau University and how it prepared him for his current career.
