HOUSTON -- LeTourneau University's volleyball team beat the University of St. Thomas, 21-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-20, Tuesday night.
The YellowJackets (10-7) pounded 63 kills, while holding the Celts (4-9) to 40. LETU also held UST to under .074 hitting in two of the four sets. The win marked LeTourneau's third straight and fourth in the last five matches.
Kianna Crow banged 28 kills, and had a career-best 22 digs, while hitting .300.
Natalie Davenport had a season-high 59 assists, 16 digs and three aces.
Mikayla Thomas had 16 kills, two aces, two blocks and 11 digs, and hit .344.
Taylor Smith had 13 kills and a season-high 24 digs.
Cam Taylor, the American Southwest Conference East Defensive Player of the Week, had 22 digs and two aces.
LeTourneau used a 7-0 run in the second set to take a 19-11 lead, following a kill by Crow. An ace by Crow bumped the Jackets' lead to 21-12. A kill by Thomas and an attack error by UST's Emily Jaroszewski on Taylor's service point moved LETU within set point. Following a sideout, Thomas and Smith combined on a block to tie the match at 1-1.
The YellowJackets got out to a 12-8 lead in the third set following a block by Thomas and Davenport. The YellowJackets extended the lead to 17-11 on an ace by Davenport. Crow and
Natalie Connelly banged back-to-back kills to give LETU a 19-13 advantage.
Madison Denega had a kill, Taylor ripped off two straight aces, and the Celts committed an attack error to push LeTourneau's lead to 23-15. A pair of putaways by Thomas in between a sideout gave the Jackets a 2-1 lead in the match.
St. Thomas had 14 kills and 10 errors in the middle two sets.Â
LeTourneau opened a 13-6 lead in the fourth set after a pair of service points by Taylor. Crow pounded a putaway to push the lead to 17-12. Smith's kill made it 21-15. Another kill by Taylor brought LETU within match point. Two serves later, Taylor banged down a winner to secure the win.
The YellowJackets stung the Celts with 21 kills in the fourth set.
LeTourneau had eight aces, while St. Thomas managed just one. The Jackets had 62 assists to the Celts' 37.Â
LETU will host Louisiana College in a return to ASC play 2 p.m. Saturday in Solheim Arena.
