HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC - Coming off a thrilling 5-4 victory yesterday afternoon, the LeTourneau University women's tennis team picked up their second-straight victory with a 7-2 neutral-site win over Washington College at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on Wednesday, March 13th.
LETU is now 4-6 overall after winning two of their three matches at Spring Tennis Fest while the Shorewomen fell to 1-3 overall with the defeat.
The YellowJackets would handily win all three doubles matches as to set the tone early as
Katharine Waldthausen and
Maddison Brackenreg (number one doubles) and
Gracie Favela and
Terin Murray (number two doubles) both earned 8-2 wins.
Mimi Samdi and
Lauren Rockwell would team up for LETU at number three doubles and earn an 8-5 win to finish off a clean doubles sweep for LeTourneau.
In singles action, LETU would get two quick wins from Waldthausen at number one singles (6-2, 6-3) and Brackenreg at number two singles (6-2, 6-3) to secure the team match. Washington College would manage to pick up a victory at number three singles over Favela by scores of 7-5, 7-5, but Murray would manage to respond with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 win at number four singles for the YellowJackets. The final two matches would see Rockwell fall 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 at number five singles while Samdi would earn a 6-3, 6-3 straight-sets victory.
Having split their past six matches, LETU will look to return home and earn their first home victory of the year on Friday, March 22nd when they play host to Concordia University Texas at 4 p.m. CTX is 1-2 overall and will play two more matches prior to taking on the YellowJackets.
