LONGVIEW, Texas - Securing two doubles points to hold a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, the LeTourneau University women's tennis team would be unable to pull out a win in a 5-4 loss to Concordia University Texas in non-conference action at the Davis Tennis Courts in Longview, Texas on Friday, March 22nd.
Through 11 matches this season, LETU sports a 4-7 overall record while the Tornadoes are now 3-4 overall on the season.
Each of the two wins in doubles action would come in very different forms for the YellowJackets as
Katharine Waldthausen and
Maddison Brackenreg earned an 8-1 win at number one doubles while
Gracie Favela and
Terin Murray teamed up for an 8-7 (7-4) win at number two doubles. CTX would be able to grab a win at number three doubles as
Lauren Rockwell and
Samantha Trevino would fall for LETU.
It would appear as though the YellowJackets would reclaim momentum by getting a 6-3, 6-0 win from Waldthausen at number one singles and be followed up by a 6-3, 6-0 win at number two singles for Brackenreg. Things would hit a turning point as Favela would fall 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) at number three singles which would then flip momentum in favor of Concordia. Playing at number four singles for LeTourneau, Murray would fall 6-1, 6-1 while Rockwell dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision at number five singles to allow CTX to tie things at 4-4. In the final match of the day,
Mimi Samdi would be unable to secure a team win for the YellowJackets by falling 6-0, 6-0 which gave the Tornadoes a one-point victory.
What's Next?
One more non-conference tune-up awaits the YellowJackets before the start of American Southwest Conference play as LeTourneau will travel to Texas Lutheran University for an 11 a.m. match on Sunday, March 24th. TLU entered the weekend with a 3-2 overall record and will be playing their third match in three days when they take on LETU.
