LONGVIEW – LeTourneau University women's basketball team won its most games since 2016-17 with Thursday's 77-61 win over Louisiana College.
The YellowJackets improved to 13-11 overall, 9-6 in the American Southwest Conference. The 2016-17 team went 13-13. LETU will host Belhaven 1 p.m. Saturday on Senior Day in the final home game of the season.
Keauna Whitfield scored 20 points on 5 of 11 shooting, and grabbed five rebounds.
Micayla Mikulski had 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting.
Vanessa Cruz added 12 points, six assists, five steals and three rebounds, while going 5 of 6 from the floor.
The YellowJackets shot 70 percent in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats, 33-11. They led by as many as 40 points after
Malacia Guy sank three free throws. LETU was outscored, 24-2, in the fourth quarter – with
Ti'Erra Lee scoring the lone basket. But it wasn't enough to overcome the Jackets' dominance in the third quarter to blow the game open.
Nine different players scored for LeTourneau.
Flora Akingbade had seven points and five rebounds.
Jordan McClenton added six points and seven boards.
Bailey Lightfoot also had six points, and pulled down five rebounds.
Kayla Kinney had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Maya Washington 14 points and three steals for the Wildcats.
LETU outrebounded Louisiana College, 58-40. The Jackets went 22-for-27 at the free throw line in a game they led for 38:38.
