LeTourneau University men's tennis team won its second match at the Hilton Head Spring Tennis Fest Tuesday, beating Millikin, 6-3, at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis. The YellowJackets improved to 7-3 this year. The Big Blue fell to 1-7.
LeTourneau won two of the three doubles matches, and claimed the bottom four singles positions to wrap up the victory.
Nathan Schmidt and
Rodrigo Vazquez Chairez beat Cory Erickson and James Broach, 8-2, at No. 3 pairs.
Julian Lee and
Miles Grubbs beat Holden Owens and Clayton Maack, 8-4, at No. 2.
After Millikin tied the match at 2-2 with a victory at No. 1 singles, Lee beat Owens, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3 to make it 3-2. Schmidt took care of Logan Bennett, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 to give the Jackets a 4-2 advantage. The Big Blue pulled within a point after securing the No. 2 singles match. But Vazquez Chairez clinched the win for the YellowJackets when he beat Nick Laramee, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot. Grubbs defeated Adrian Rodriguez, 6-4, 6-4, in the final match to finish.
LeTourneau will play Lake Forest College 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
