Mimi Samdi pushed the YellowJackets through for the first time this year.
LeTourneau University women's tennis team won its first match of the season, beating Millikin, 6-3, Tuesday in the Hilton Head Spring Tennis Fest at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis. Samdi's singles victory clinched the victory for the YellowJackets, who improved to 1-8.
Samantha Trevino and
Sierra Giesen Linssen sent the Jackets into singles with a 2-1 lead after beating Alena Hinch and Amber Rezinas, 8-3, at the No. 3 position.
Maddison Brackenreg and
Bailey Deatherage's 8-1 triumph over Shelby Jones and Brianna Barconi accounted for the other YellowJackets pairs victory.
Giesen Linssen scratched out a 6-0, 6-3 No. 4 singles win over Katie Cooper to put LETU ahead 3-1. After Millikin (5-10) won the No. 5 singles match, Brackenreg completed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jones at the top flight to move the YellowJackets within a point of the match.
The Big Blue closed the gap to one again with a point at No. 2 singles to make it 4-3. But Samdi picked up her first singles victory this season when she beat Amber Rezinas, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6.
Bailey Deatherage closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Danielle Beard at the No. 3 spot.
LeTourneau will play Lake Forest College 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
