Jackets season ends in PKs

RICHARDSON, Texas – A tough fought battle!

As the result of a 4-2 penalty kick shootout, LeTourneau men's soccer season ended in a 1-1 draw against UT Dallas, failing to advance in the American Southwest Conference Quarterfinals at the UTD Soccer Complex Tuesday.

After a scoreless first half, the YellowJackets struck first when a corner kick by Nahum Serrano soared to find the head of Ethan Anderson for a goal, giving the Jackets a 1-0 lead at the 50th minute mark.

LETU kept the Comets in check until the 83rd minute when UTD's Riley O'Donnell snuck one past the Jacket defense, forcing the game into the first overtime.

Equivalent to a heavy-weight prize fight, both teams threw blows and fostered in stingy defense in the first overtime, pushing the game to a second overtime. A key save by Jacket goalkeeper Jack Carpenter in the second overtime imposed the game to go into a penalty kick shootout.

In the penalty kick shootout, Enrique Salazar and Russell Gray found the back of the net but the YellowJackets missed two penalty kick attempts in total. UTD took advantage of the one-on-one matchup with the keeper, netting all four penalty kick attempts to lift the Comets over LETU.

The Jackets finish the season 9-8-1 and 5-5 in the ASC. UTD advances to face the winner of Belhaven and Concordia in the ASC Semifinals.
