LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU women's basketball team extended its winning streak to six with an 86-71 victory over Belhaven Thursday at Solheim Arena.
Keauna Whitfield, the reigning American Southwest Conference Player of the Week and leading scorer in the league dropped in 24, leading all scorers. In 100 career starts, she's finished with double-digit points 77 times, including all seven contests this season.
The YellowJackets improved to 6-1 overall, including 3-0 in league play. Belhaven dropped to 5-3, 1-3.
Allaira Jones totaled her fifth double-double in seven tilts, netting 21 points and grabbing 13 boards.
Ajanae Thomas chipped in with a season-high 23 points, while
Malacia Guy matched her career-best nine helpers.
LETU jumped out to a 12-0 lead midway through the opening 10 minutes en route to the largest halftime advantage for the YellowJackets. Holding the Blazers to offense to
32 percent (13-of-41) from the floor in the first half, while draining 16 of their 32 attempts, LETU's edge methodically increased.
Belhaven had its best period in the contests, cutting the deficit to 11 with 10 minutes remaining.
Heading to the fourth with a 61-50 gap, the YellowJackets quickly removed any doubt of the outcome. They sprinted out to a 21-point edge with a 10-0 spurt and forcing a Blazers timeout with just over
eight minutes remaining.
