YellowJackets Take Down Ozarks in Regular Season Finale

LeTourneau secures .500 season for first time since 2010

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – LeTourneau University men's soccer team beat Ozarks, 2-1, Thursday in the final regular season game at Clarksville High School.

The game was moved to the high school due to water-logged field conditions at the University of the Ozarks.

The victory put the YellowJackets (6-5, 3-4 American Southwest Conference) in position to qualify for next week's ASC Championship Tournament with some outside help. The win also assured the Jackets of a .500 overall winning percentage for the first time since 2010.

Santi De La Torre scored on an assist from Oscar Vargas in the 27th minute to give LeTourneau a 1-0 lead. It was De La Torre's third goal of the season. He leads the YellowJackets with 11 points.

U of O's Jonathan Julmiste knotted the game at 1-1 when he scored on a setup from Kevin Avalos in the 37th minute.

LETU answered less than four minutes later when Beau Weber scored his second goal of the season on another assist from Vargas.

It was the second straight game De La Torre and Weber both scored goals. It was also the second straight game Weber scored the gamewinning goal. It was the first multi-point game of the season for Vargas.

LeTourneau was outshot, 14-7. The Eagles (5-4, 4-2) also held a 9-4 advantage on shots on goal.

Jackets starting goalkeeper CJ Leyva stopped one shot. He was replaced by Kolton Johnson 3:08 into the second half. Johnson matched his season high with six saves. Ozarks keeper Logan Valestin had two saves.

LETU's victory snapped a four-game win streak for the Eagles. It was also the first time the Eagles had been scored on in the last six games, and the first time they have given up two goals since the season opener on Feb. 5.

LETU will learn its postseason fate Saturday or Sunday.
