ABILENE, Texas – LeTourneau's softball team lost the opening game a three-game series at Hardin-Simmons Friday, 11-1.
The YellowJackets (5-7, 4-6 American Southwest Conference) scored the game's first run in the top of the first when
Callie Poore ripped an RBI single to center. But Hardin-Simmons (6-11, 2-5) scored four runs in its half of the inning to take command of the game. The Cowgirls added four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to put it away.
Alysa Torres and Poore both went 2-for-3 for the Jackets.
Hana Bonner and Isabela Tresca each were 1-for-2.
HSU's Kaylen Washington (2-5) went the distance, allowing six hits, a run and a walk, and struck out four in the win. LETU's
Jade Merrell (1-2) gave up seven runs on seven hits and a walk in the loss.
Bailey Richey went the last 4.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out four.
The YellowJackets were outhit, 12-6.
The two teams will meet in a doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday.
