LONGVIEW – LeTourneau University men's tennis team lost to Southwestern University, 7-2, Saturday.
Rodrigo Vazquez and
Nathan Schmidt finished first at No. 2 doubles, falling to Hunter Bajoit and Vesko Lekovic, 8-2. At No. 1 doubles,
Julian Lee and
Patrick Baney defeated Drew Shuvalov and Carlos Rodero, 8-6, tying the match up at 1-1.
Miles Grubbs and
Jonah McGinty lost to Alexander Joseph and Steven Tibbetts, 8-1, at the No. 3 position.
Baney and Lee improved to 9-1 on the year in doubles action, making it their eighth victory in a row.
The YellowJackets trailed 2-1 moving into singles play.
Lee fell to Lekovic in the first set, 6-4, but beat Lekovic in the second set, 6-1, before claiming the match win in the tiebreaker set, 7-6 (7-4), at No. 1 singles. Vazquez lost to Bajoit, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 2 position. At No. 3, Baney fell to Joseph, 7-5, 6-0. Schmidt dropped his match at No. 4 singles to Rodero, 6-1, 6-2.
Jeffrey Golladay lost to Tibbetts, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 5 singles slot. At No. 6 singles, Grubbs fell to Anton Borovik, 6-4, 6-1.
LETU will drop to 9-3 on the season.
The Jackets will travel to Jackson, Mississippi to take on Belhaven University in an American Southwest Conference matchup.
