CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – LeTourneau University women's tennis team won its American Southwest Conference opener Friday, beating Ozarks on the road, 7-2.
The ASC match was LeTourneau's first win since the 2019 season after all league matches last year were wiped out.
LeTourneau (3-7, 1-0 ASC) swept doubles play for the second time this season, giving the YellowJackets a 3-0 cushion heading into singles.
Sierra Linssen and
Julia Miller authored an 8-3 victory over Alexis Rogers and Anna Ryan at the No. 2 pairs position to put the Jackets on the board first.
Brandy Weems and
Amber Van Duyn picked up an 8-4 win over Skylar Frazier and Lea Terrell at No. 3.
Bailey Deatherage and
Summer Apostalo overcame Angelica Garcia and Kaitlin Gutierrez, 8-6, at No. 1 to complete the sweep.
Weems and Van Duyn have won their last three doubles matches together.
Ozarks picked up a point at No. 2 singles when Alexis Rogers beat Giessen Linssen, 6-3, 6-2. But Weems outlasted Ryan, 7-5, in the first set before putting her away, 6-2, in the second to win the No. 4 singles point. That gave LETU a 4-1 lead. Deatherage clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Garcia at the top flight.
Miller gutted out a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 win over Frazier at No. 5 singles to make it 6-1.
Mimi Samdi cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Terrell at No. 6. Apostalo fell in competitive battle to Gutierez, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3 to wrap it up.
