LONGVIEW, Texas –
Kianna Crow's double-double helped LeTourneau claim a 3-0 sweep of Dallas at the Solheim Arena Tuesday.
The Yellowjackets improved to 5-4 with the 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 victory, their first three-set victory this season, while the Crusaders dropped to 4-6 overall and their fifth consecutive 3-0 defeat.
"I'm very proud of the team and how they pulled together to get the sweep tonight," head coach
Mallory Matthews said. "We have two big conference games on the road this weekend and this was a great start to the week."
Crow's 12 kills and 10 digs was the 47th double-double of her career. She now has 1,007 digs in her career, becoming just the second member of the 1,000-1,000 club in program history.
"Kianna is a solid player for us that is just as consistent on the back row for us as she is on the front row," Matthews said. "Surpassing 1,000 digs and kills is a great accomplishment for her career."
LETU jumped out to a 12-2 edge in the opening set before the visitors managed a scoring run. Closing the deficit to two at 19-17, Dallas was unable to get any closer and the Yellowjackets capitalized with a 6-1 run to secure a 1-0 lead.
Building advantages of 10-4, 13-7 and 20-13 in the second set, Dallas appeared to have things in control and poised to even things at 1-1. A service error by the Crusaders gave the hosts the opening they needed and LETU slammed the door shut with a 12-3 run, grabbing a 2-0 edge.
The teams traded punches early in set three, with Dallas answering a 6-0 spurt by LeTourneau with a 6-1 run of their own. Leading 10-9, LETU rattled off five points in order, enlarging the advantage to 15-9. Neither side padded their total with more than two points at a time the rest of the way and the Yellowjackets secured the victory.
LeTourneau embarks on a crucial two-match road trip beginning Friday at 4 p.m. at Howard Payne.
