Late goal stuns men's soccer

LONGVIEW, Texas – Stunned!

That's what many felt as they left the Joyce Family Athletic Complex Monday.

A counterattack by Dallas in the 84th minute that ended up in the back of Letourneau's net was the difference in a fixture dominated by the home squad.

The Yellowjackets (1-1) carried the play for the better part of 90 minutes, registering 23 shots, while the Crusaders (2-0) mounted 10.

Many of LETU's attempts came from distance and sailed either high or wide allowing the visitors to hang around, cash in on one opportunity and claim the victory.

The play of the match came on a counterattack and Dallas built speed through the middle third before Chase Reynolds slid a pass over to Jose Martinez. Martinez took one step before uncorking a blast from just outside the 18-yard box just above a leaping CJ Leyva and under the crossbar, giving the Crusaders the advantage.

The marker appeared to deflate the Yellowjackets, which failed to register a shot and out of sync over the final seven minutes.

LeTourneau continues its three-game homestand Friday against Jarvis Christian at 7:30 p.m.

Inside the Numbers:
Leyva's scoreless streak to start the season ended at 173:09 minutes.
Fifteen of the Yellowjackets came from distance, while the Crusaders mustard just two in the scoring area.
