JACKSON, Miss. – LETU concluded a grueling four-game road trip with a setback against Belhaven Saturday.
The YellowJackets fell for just the third time in 18 contests this season, including 10-3 in American Southwest Conference play. Belhaven moved into eighth in league play at 6-7, 4-6.
Deonte Jackson led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 9 of 18 from floor, adding six assists and four rebounds.
Andrew Eberhardt added 19 points, five boards, three steals and two assists.
Warren Richardson and
Christian Adams chipped in with nine points each.
LETU hit nearly half its field-goal attempts (13 of 28) building a 38-29 halftime advantage. Belhaven was 22 of 29, including 0 for 4 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes.
Playing their fourth road game in 10 days, covering nearly 1,900 miles, the YellowJackets ran out of steam at the same time the Blazers hit their stride.
Belhaven used a 20-8 spurt to pull away in the final four minutes. The Blazers hit five of their final six attempts from the field, including 2 of 3 from distance and adding eight more points at the line. LETU went 3 of 9 over the final stretch, converting 1 of 4 from long range and 1 of 3 at the charity stripe.
LETU hosts UMHB Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, in a rematch from a 91-86 overtime loss in Belton, Texas, Dec. 18, 2021. Coupled with a win over McMurry Saturday, the Cru holds a half game advantage leading into the matchup.
