HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's basketball team had a slow start on Monday night, but hung tough in the second half in an 84-48 exhibition loss at Sam Houston inside Johnson Coliseum.
It was the second, and final, exhibition of the year for LeTourneau (1-0) as the YellowJackets turn their attention to the 24 regular season games left on the schedule. Sam Houston (3-0), which already sports a win over Oklahoma this year, remains undefeated on the season.
The host Bearkats raced out to a big lead in the first half as LeTourneau struggled to find the range. Sam Houston led 45-16 at the break.
In the second half, though, LeTourneau played within seven to the Division I foe and ended the game on an 18-3 scoring run.
Cooper Vanlandingham hit four 3-pointers in the second half and finished with a game-high 12 points.
LeTourneau limited Sam Houston to just 4-of-26 (15.4 percent) from 3-point land in the game and 42.7 percent from the field.
The YellowJackets hit seven 3-pointers on the night.
Deonte Jackson had eight points in the first half and added a pair of rebounds, while
Warren Richardson had six rebounds and four assists.
Jaran Young added seven points with
Christian Adams and
Caleb Ceasar tallying six points each. Adams also collected seven rebounds.
Tristan Ikpe and Qua Grant had 11 points apiece for Sam Houston.

LeTourneau heads to Georgetown, Texas for Southwestern's Paul Peak Classic this weekend. The YellowJackets play Southwestern on Saturday (7:30 p.m.).
