GEORGETOWN, Texas --
Deonte Jackson scored a game-high 26 points and the LeTourneau men's basketball team never trailed as it cruised to a 70-57 victory over Southwestern on Saturday night at the Paul Peak Classic.
LeTourneau moves to 2-0 on the year.
Jackson scored 26 points for a second straight regular season game as he poured in 19 points in the first half to help the YellowJackets build a seven-point lead. The guard went 9-of-18 from the field with three 3-pointers to go with five rebounds.
Walker Blaine scored all 17 of his points in the second half as he drained five triples over the final 20 minutes.
Christian Adams added nine points and
Warren Richardson had six points and 10 rebounds.
LeTourneau jumped out to a 13-2 lead after a bucket from
Rashard Johnson with 14:52 left in the first half. That was as big as the lead got for the YellowJackets, but LeTourneau never trailed in the half and took a 38-31 edge into halftime as Jackson tallied half of the points for the guests.
Blaine took over early in the second half to extend the LeTourneau lead. Blaine scored the first 11 points of the half for the YellowJackets, including three 3-pointers, and had 17 points in the period. His triple with 15:29 remaining gave LeTourneau a 49-33 lead.
The margin stretched to 20 on a
John Argue basket with nine minutes left and it never got below double-digits the rest of the game. Argue finished with six points and eight rebounds.
LeTourneau hit nine 3-pointers in the contest and made 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the field. The YellowJackets dominated on the glass with a 39-25 advantage and eight second-chance points.
Zac Black led Southwestern (1-3) with 14 points and six rebounds while the Pirates also received 12 points from Jacob Hester. Southwestern was held to 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the field and just 3-for-19 from deep.
