KERRVILLE, Texas -- LeTourneau men's basketball team makes a late push to hand Schreiner their first loss of the season in an 82-75 win on Saturday afternoon.
LeTourneau (3-1) trailed by as much as 12 in the second half but found a way to come back and win.
Deonte Jackson aided the effort by scoring his fourth 20-plus point game with 23 against the Mountaineers.
The YellowJackets hopped to a quick 14-6 lead before the first media timeout with a pair of 3-pointers from
Walker Blaine. The Jackets were able to extend their lead to 10 at 22-12, with points coming from
Rashard Johnson and
Cooper Vanlandingham before the mountaineers were able to fight back and cut the lead to four at 24-20 before the under-eight media timeout.
Schreiner went on a 17-5 run to put them ahead  37-29 before heading into the locker room.
The YellowJackets crept their way back into the game chipping away at the lead and eventually going on a 15-5 run to bring it within reaching distance at 55-53 with 9:12 left in the game.
John Argue gave the Jackets their first lead of the second half at 68-67 in style with a dunk assisted by Jackson.
Jackson later put away a fashionable floating jumper to extend the late lead to three, 76-73 with 1:04 showing on the clock. The YellowJackets were then able to hold on going 6-for-6 from the line in the last minute to cement the 82-75 win.
LeTourneau hit nine 3-pointers in the contest, three of which from the hands of Blaine. Blaine finished the night with 18 points, two assists, and one block. Jackson, also responsible for putting away three 3-point shots, finished the day with four rebounds, four assists, and five steals.Â
Warren Richardson was a rebound away from what would have been his third double-double on the season, with nine rebounds and 10 points. Argue tallied 12 points with two steals and six rebounds.
The Mountaineers had two scorers reach 15 points by the likes of Kamden Ross and Darian Gibson. Ross also recorded 16 rebounds and a steal while Gibson secured six rebounds and an assist.
