Postseason Run Ends for Men's Soccer in ASC Championship Round

AUSTIN, Texas -- The incredible run for the LeTourneau men's soccer team came to an end on Saturday afternoon as No. 1 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor knocked off the YellowJackets, 6-0, in the ASC Championship at Lewis-Chen Family Field.

LeTourneau, which used a Cinderella run to make the championship with advancements over the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds, ends the year 7-7-6 overall.

The YellowJackets were making their second-ever appearance in the championship round of the ASC Tournament, and the first since 1998. Mary Hardin-Baylor (13-2-2) earns the ASC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

LeTourneau had opportunities in the first half, but were turned away by the UMHB defense. The YellowJackets took six shots in the opening half, including two on frame, and had three corner kicks.

The YellowJackets best chance to get on the board came in the 19th and 20th minutes. LeTourneau had a pair of corner kicks in the stretch and had three attempts from Keaton Johnson, Nahum Serrano, and Syed Zain to try and even the score.

UMHB grabbed the lead in the sixth minute with a goal from Nick Villanueva off a corner kick. That lead stood through the rest of the half.

In the second half, the top-seeded Cru seized control of the match and notched five goals. The first of those five came in the 71st minute as Patrick Roach scored the first of two goals in the period. UMHB scored twice on penalty kicks and tacked on another in the run of play to pull away for the win.

Raul Torrez tallied a career-high 12 saves to collect his third straight match of double-digit saves. In the tournament, Torrez had 33 saves.

Serrano and Garrett Thom had three shots apiece for LeTourneau. UMHB keeper Dalton Lloyd made one save.

Torrez, Bridger Roberdeau, and Serrano all earned ASC All-Tournament honors.
