ETBU Pulls Away from Women's Hoops

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Visiting East Texas Baptist used a strong second quarter to pull away from the LeTourneau women's basketball team on Saturday as the Tigers defeated the YellowJackets, 75-51, in ASC action inside Solheim Arena.

LeTourneau (4-8, 0-5 ASC) got out to a fast start in the opening quarter and trailed by two heading into the second. ETBU (8-2, 4-1 ASC) bounced back in the second and outscored the YellowJackets, 22-8, in the period to pull away and take the road win.

Kyndall Hardeman had 15 points and three rebounds to lead LeTourneau, while Alyssa Hall, Johnai Wimbleduff, and Bailey Broughton all had seven points apiece. Hardeman went 5-of-10 from the field and hit 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Hall added three steals and two blocks.

LeTourneau shot 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from the field in the opening quarter. A Wimbleduff 3-pointer tied the game at 14-14 with under three minutes left in the period before a Hardeman bucket gave LeTourneau an 18-17 lead with 1:13 remaining. ETBU's Alexis Purcell hit a 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the period to give the Tigers a 20-18 lead into the second quarter.

ETBU made 61.5 percent from the floor in the second and connected on all four 3-point attempts as the Tigers scored 22 points in the period and took a 42-26 lead at the break. ETBU made seven 3-pointers in the first half and finished the game with 11.

LeTourneau would not get the deficit below double-digits the rest of the game.

Haylee Jordan added six points and six rebounds for the YellowJackets. AJ Thomas and Madelyn DeLosSantos each had two assists.

ETBU got a game-high 24 points from Bridget Upton and 11 points from Jamara Levy. The Tigers shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) for the game and 16-of-21 from the foul line.

LeTourneau breaks for Christmas and will be back in action on Jan. 5 at Sul Ross State (5:30 p.m.) in Alpine.
