Pride, LETU survive McMurry Rally

LONGVIEW, Texas – Jordan Pride capitalized on his second opportunity, securing a one-point LETU victory over McMurry Thursday at Solheim Arena.

The YellowJackets improved to 17-4 overall, including 12-4 in American Southwest Conference play with the 87-86, while the War Hawks fall to 7-13, 5-11.

Trailing 86-84 with :01 remaining on the clock in overtime, Pride was awarded three shots after being fouled in the act of shooting. After a short review to check the time remaining at the moment of the infraction, Pride stepped to the line and drained all three attempts.

Pride was unable to seal the victory in a similar situation at the end of regulation, missing both attempts from the line but made the most of his second opportunity. He finished with nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

A 9-0 run to close the first half, pushed the LETU lead out to 19 at the intermission. The YellowJackets 20-point advantage with 14:56 left in regulation evaporated but they had several chances to ice the game away in the final minutes. They missed several field-goal attempts from point-blank range and converted once in four tries at the line in the final minutes.

R Minor appeared to give McMurry the game winner when his 18-footer found the bottom of the net with less than three tick remaining.

Warren Richardson registered his seventh double-double of the season with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Andrew Eberhardt became the newest YellowJacket to reach 1,000 points in a career, totaling 22, with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Deonte Jackson tallied 14 points, dished out four helpers, with three steals, two boards and a rejection.

LETU closes its home schedule at 3 p.m. Saturday against Hardin-Simmons.
