Comeback Falls Short in Alpine

BOX SCORE

Alpine, Texas – LeTourneau baseball fell short in its final game of the series at Sul Ross Saturday, 11-10.

The YellowJackets fall to 3-10 overall and 1-8 in the American Southwest Conference. The Lobos improve to 7-2, 7-2 ASC.

LETU was held scoreless heading into the top of the fourth when Cameron Pfafman and Dane Jones led off, cranking back-to-back homers over the gate to cut the SRSU lead to three, 5-2.
After being shutdown for two straight innings, Sul Ross notched another run in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to four runs.

LETU answered the following inning after Weston McKinley singled to left field to send Hunter Miller dashing across the plate for a score. Devin Greaff collected an RBI, singling to left field to bring McKinley in. SRSU led 6-4 heading into the bottom half of the inning.

The Lobos rattled off five runs in the seventh and eighth to increase its advantage. Despite LETU tallying a run after a Sul Ross field error, the YellowJackets found itself down six heading into the decisive inning, 11-5.

The duo of Pfafman and Jones struck again for RBIs to kick the scoring frenzy off when Pfafman singled to center field to bring home Dylan Cortes, while Jones hammered a double to center field, allowing Ethan Wood to tally a run. Pfafman bolted home for a score after a wild pitch from the Sul Ross pitcher, moving LETU one step closer to a comeback, trailing 11-8.

Miller stepped back up to the plate for a single to right field, advancing Jones for a score. McKinley sent a hit in play, moving Anthony Ybarra across home plate, but Miller found himself out at third for the Jackets second out. Sul Ross caught the Jackets stealing for the third out, stifling the LETU comeback.

Pfafman and Jones both went 3-5 from the plate with two RBIs and one homer apiece. Miller and McKinley each had two RBIs on the day, while Greaff tallied one RBI and a hit. Cody Stanley and Wood also had one hit on the day. Aman Patel carried the load on the mound, pitching six innings with seven hits and five strikeouts to take the loss.

The YellowJackets continue ASC play as it returns back to Conrad-Vernon Stadium Mar. 4 at 6 p.m. to take on McMurry in a three game series.
