LONGVIEW, Texas – Wasted opportunities derails LETU in a 6-3 defeat to McMurry in the series opener at Conrad-Vernon Field Friday.
The YellowJackets fell to 3-11 overall, including 1-9 in American Southwest Conference play, while the War Hawks improved to 7-7, 4-6.
Devin Greaff registered LETU's lone extra-base hit.

Jared Schurig got the start on the bump, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing five runs – three earned. He scattered nine hits and walked one, striking out six.
William Bond relieved Schruig in the seventh and sat down both batters he faced, closing the frame with a punchout.
Shane Salzman recorded the final six outs, surrendering one run. He issued a base-on-balls, a hit and fanning three.
McMurry's first batter reached on an error, which the guest took advantage of and grabbed the early lead by plating two unearned runs.
The YellowJackets stranded 12 baserunners on the night, including eight in scoring position and their ineptness failure began in the bottom of the first. Derek Hostas worked out of a jam after surrendering a pair of one-out walks.
Consecutive two-out knocks doubled the War Hawks margin at 4-0, after two. A miscue by the road team accounted for a tally in the bottom half of the frame but LETU stranded a runner at second.
Hostas worked around a walk and two-hit batsmen in the third, escaping with the bags full.
Greaff doubled to right center and came in on a single by Cortes, trimming the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth. He was stranded at second. Greaff and Wood were left-on-base in the sixth.
Solo markers in the seventh and ninth for McMurry nudged the gap out to 6-2, with three-outs remaining for the home side.
A pair of walks, hit-by-pitch and a dropped pop-up trimmed the margin to three, bringing the winning run to the plate. Braxton Briones induced a grounder to short, nailing down the save.
The teams conclude the weekend series, with a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at noon.
