LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU Softball dropped the first two games of the series against Hardin-Simmons Friday, 1-0 and 5-4.
In game one, the YellowJackets and the Cowgirls battled through seven innings without a score, causing for an extra inning. LeTourneau tallied three hits and three errors in the first seven innings, while HSU had three hits and one error.
The Cowgirls took the lead in the top half of the extra inning when Sarah Polanco singled down the right field line for a score. The Jackets notched one hit in the bottom half after
Callie Poore doubled to right center, but it was not enough for an LETU comeback.

Preslie Turney and
Mickenzie Murry each had a hit in game one. Taylor took the loss in the circle, pitching eight innings with six strikeouts.
Hardin-Simmons struck first in the final game of the doubleheader in the top of third, scoring two runs. LETU closed the gap in the bottom of inning when
Kylie Grisham doubled down the third base line to send
Madelyn Tannery in for a score.
The Cowgirls extended its lead, marking two scores in the top half of the fourth and fifth innings to extend its lead to three, 4-1. The YellowJackets struck again in the bottom of the fifth for a run when
Alysa Torres flied out to left field to collect an RBI, shrinking the Hardin-Simmons lead.
In the decisive inning, HSU attained another score in the top half to push its lead back to three. LETU seemed poised for a comeback in the bottom of the inning after Grisham tripled down the right field line to send
Jade Merrell dashing across home plate.
Kenna Hendry singled to left field for an RBI, advancing Grisham in for a run, pulling the YellowJackets within one. The Cowgirls clinched the win with the next two batters, putting together a strikeout and fly out.
Torres, Grisham, and
Macy Clevenger each totaled two hits. Tannery, Poore, and Hendry had one hit in the final contests of the day.
Hailee Leger lost in the circle for the Jackets, pitching 4.1 innings.
Bailey Richey also seen time in the circle, tallying five strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
LETU hosts Hardin-Simmons in the final game of the series Saturday at 12 p.m.
