BROWNWOOD, Texas – Kylie Grisham paced the offense and Bailey Richey dominated in the circle as LETU evened the weekend series at Howard Payne with a 12-1 victory in the nightcap at Lady Jacket Park Friday.

Grisham finished a home run short of hitting for the cycle, with three hits in four at-bats, scoring twice and knocking in two. Richey stymied the opposition and earned the complete-game victory, allowing one run, while scattering seven hits and striking out four.

With the result, the YellowJackets moved to 6-16 overall, including 4-10 in American Southwest Conference play, while HPU dropped to 4-22, 1-12.

Alysa Torres opened the scoring with a two-out single down the left field line in the first, plating Kiley Banks and Callie Poore.Torres added to her RBI total, when Grisham crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly in the third, part of a three-hit, three run frame. Madelyn Tannery led off with a single and scored with a double to left
center by Poore. Grisham tripled off the new pitcher, scoring Poore.

Tannery made it 6-0 in the following inning, when her fly out to center was deep enough for Clevenger to scamper home.

Lauren Wilking worked a bases-loaded walk in the fifth, scoring Murry and pushing the margin out to 7-0.

The offense erupted with five runs on six hits in the sixth, expaniding the gap to a dozen.

Needing five runs to extend the game to a seventh inning Howard Payne collected a double and a single to prevent the shutout but Richey closed the door with a ground out to third.

The two teams conclude the series at noon Saturday.
