LONGVIEW, Texas –
Weston McKinley and
Raul Martinez led LETU to a 7-3 win in the night cap, sweeping the twin bill against Howard Payne at Conrad-Vernon Field Saturday.
The YellowJackets improved to 8-17 overall, including 5-13 in American Southwest Conference play, while HPU dropped to 7-16, 2-13.
McKinley drove in his first of three RBIs with a sacrifice fly in the second, scoring Jaggar Vaugh and giving LETU the early advantage.
After replacing the opener -
Landon Stocks – on the bump, Martinez tossed 5.0 innings, scattering seven hits, walking one and fanning seven. He held the Yellow Jackets to two runs and earned his first win of the campaign.
Dane Jones converted a quality out into a run-batted-in.
Devin Greaff, who led off the third with a double scored on a grounder to the right side of the defense, nudging the margin out to 2-0.
Howard Payne cashed in a walk and two hits in the fifth to even the contest at 2-2, but the YellowJackets responded with a tally in the bottom of the frame.
Devin Greaff, who worked a one-out walk, moved to third on a failed pick-off attempt before scampering home on a passed ball.

Cody Stanley and
Dylan Cortes worked consecutive walks to open the sixth and extend the margin to 4-2. McKinley bounced one over the drawn-in third baseman that bounded down the left field line, chasing home Stanley and Vaughn, expanding the gap. After a groundout, Cortes crossed the plate on a passed ball.
A solo homer in the ninth completed the scoring.
LETU tallied four hits, with
Cameron Pfafman, Vaughn and Greaff joining McKinley in the hit column.
Stocks spun 3.0 scoreless frames, allowing three hits, two walks and fanning one.
Cade Smitherman tossed the ninth, retiring three of the four batters he faced.
