LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU women's tennis dismantled Belhaven Saturday, 9-0, in its first American Southwest College East Division match of the season.
"It was a good day for us on our home courts and in our first East Division match," Head Coach
Suzanne Merritt said. "Everyone played well and showed a willingness to fight for each point."
Madison Morris and
Megan LeBlanc got the ball rolling for LETU, tallying the first match point at the No. 1 doubles slot. Morris and LeBlanc took down Judith Mills and Tyler Wiggins, 8-0.
Bailey Deatherage and
Brandy Weems defeated Khin Lwin and Asia Robinson, 8-1, in the second position. At No. 3,
Emma Boulanger and
Clara Brisman notched the sweep in doubles, outlasting Lily Grace and Lillian Williams, 8-6.
The YellowJackets took an early 3-0 lead after doubles play.
LETU didn't let up in singles play, collecting all six singles points for its first sweep of the season.
At the top flight, Deatherage beat Mills, 6-3, 6-2. Morris won at line two against Lwin, 6-1, 6-0. Morris has won three of her last four matches in singles play at the second spot. LeBlanc tallied a singles point at No. 3, beating Grace, 6-2, 6-1. Weems dominated at the fourth position, defeating Robinson, 6-0, 6-0. In the fifth slot, Boulanger cruised by Williams, 6-0, 6-1.
Sophie Hill won at No. 6 versus Wiggins, 6-1, 6-0.
The Jackets step out of ASC action Friday as it hosts Western New Mexico at 4 p.m.
