Jackets Fall to War Hawks

ABILENE, Texas – LETU Softball fell in its final game of the series at McMurry Saturday afternoon, 6-2.

The YellowJackets came out swinging to start the contest, tallying a run in the top of the first. Kylie Grisham was responsible for the score when singled up the middle to move Preslie Turney across home for a run. LETU blanked the War Hawks at the bottom half of the inning to move into the second with a one run advantage.

McMurry responded quickly, taking the lead after a three run inning in the bottom of the second, 3-1.

After two scoreless innings, LeTourneau would strike again when Callie Poore stepped in the batter's box for a single through the right side to send Kiley Banks dashing home for a score.

The War Hawks countered the one YellowJacket run in the sixth, marking three scores to extend its lead to five, 6-1.

LETU seem poised for a comeback in the top of the decisive inning when Banks and Turney both singled up the middle to get on base. Poore was walked to load the bases, but three straight put outs from McMurry haulted the chances of a comeback.

Turney went 4-4 at the plate, while Poore went 2-3 with an RBI. Grisham and Banks both tallied two hits. Grisham also had one RBI in the contest. Lauren Wilking and Hunter Handley each had a hit on the day. Madelynn Tanner fell in the circle, pitching five innings with three strikeouts.

The YellowJackets dropped to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in league play. The War Hawks advanced to 9-4, 7-4 American Southwest Conference.

LeTourneau return to the field Mar. 14 as it heads to take on No. 2 nationally ranked Texas Lutheran in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
