LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU men's tennis dropped a close non-conference matchup Friday to Western New Mexico, 5-4.
The YellowJackets took an early lead over the NCAA Division II Mustangs after doubles play, 2-1.
WNMU tallied the first point of the match at No. 2 doubles when Joaquin Delpino and Yu-Jhe Du beat
Rodrigo Vazquez and
Jonah McGinty, 8-3. LETU took the final two positions, beginning at the No. 1 doubles position.
Julian Lee and
Patrick Baney took down Jonathan Vega and Javier Romero, 8-5.
Ryan Holloway and
Nathan Schmidt gave the Jackets the one point match advantage after beating Patricio Larrea and Brendan Lock at line three, 8-4.
Lee and Baney tally their ninth win of the season in doubles, while Holloway and Schmidt win its third match in a row.
The Mustangs fired back in singles action, taking four of six singles points.
LETU took the No. 3 and 4 slots in singles. Holloway downed Romero at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2, while Schmidt picked up the victory at No. 4 against Du in the tiebreaker set, 6-2. Lee fell at the top singles flight to Vega, 6-2, 6-1. At line two, Vazquez lost to Delpino, 6-1, 6-0.
Andres Urretia fell to Larrea in the fifth spot, 6-3, 6-2.
Miles Grubbs dropped a point at line six to Lock, 6-1, 6-0
