Box Score RICHARDSON, Texas – LETU men's tennis fell to UT Dallas Saturday, 6-3, in an American Southwest Conference East division showdown.
The YellowJackets shift to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in ASC East play. UTD advances to 6-3, 2-0 ASC.
LETU trailed early in the match, losing in two of three close doubles points.
Patrick Baney and
Julian Lee took care of business at the top flight doubles, defeating Ashwin Vaithianathan and John Edwards, 8-6.
Jonah McGinty and
Rodrigo Vazquez lost in the tiebreaker set to Ryan Au Yeung and Ritvik Ganesan at No. 2, 7-5.
Nathan Schmidt and
Ryan Holloway fought hard at the third spot, ultimately falling to Carlos De Leon and Mario Dominguez in the tiebreaker, 8-6.
The YellowJackets secured singles points in two positions, while UTD notched four to secure the match victory. Three out of the six singles matches went to a tiebreaking third set.
Holloway and Baney tallied the wins in singles for LETU, winning at the No. 3 and 4 slots. Holloway won against Ganesan, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 3. Baney competed at No. 4, beating De Leon, 6-1, 6-4. At the top flight, Lee fell to Vaithianathan in the tiebreaker, 6-2. Vazquez lost to Edwards at line two, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Schmidt battled with Au Yeung in the fifth spot, ultimately dropping a point in the tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5).
Andres Urretia lost in the third decisive set against Dominguez, 6-3, at No. 6.
LETU continues ASC East play as it hosts Ozarks Friday at 2 p.m.
