LONGVIEW, Texas – Concordia evened the series with a 6-1 victory in the opener of Saturday's doubleheader at Conrad-Vernon Field.

LETU dropped to 9-18 overall, including 6-14 in American Southwest Conference play, while the Tornados improved to 11-12, 10-7.

Cameron Pfafman, Dane Jones, Jaggar Vaughn, Anthony Ybarra and Devin Greaff registered a hit each for the YellowJackets. Aman Patel started on the mound, allowing five runs – four earned – on five hits, three walks and striking out one in 5.2 innings.

Knotted at 1-1 after five innings, Concordia sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the sixth, plating four. After a hit-by-pitch with two outs, the YellowJackets went to their bullpen, which issued three free passes in succession. Cade Smitherman, the fourth hurler of the frame, stopped the uprising with a strikeout.

Ybarra, who opened the third with a single, scored the first run of the game when Pfafman beat out an infield hit. Aided by a defensive miscue, Concordia responded with a run in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly.
