YellowJackets rally for series win

Suarez earns first-career win

LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU earned a series win over Concordia, after rallying in the night cap at Conrad-Vernon Field Saturday.

Freshman Landry Suarez tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits, one walk and striking out two, earning his first-career victory.

The YellowJackets moved to 10-18 overall, including 7-14 in American Southwest Conference Play, while the Tornados dropped to 11-13, 10-8.

Andrew Klingenstein went 2 for 4, with a run scored. His lead-off double in the sixth was the first hit of his career and scored his first run later in the frame. He added a single in the eighth.

Jaggar Vaughn matched Klingenstein with a pair of hits, while Cameron Pfafman, Dane Jones and Cody Stanley added a knock each.

Halfway through the nine-inning game, Concordia held a 4-1 advantage with solo tallies in the first, second, fourth and fifth frames.

Pfafman doubled to right center, scoring Devin Greaff from second and moving Ethan Wood to third, trimming the deficit to two. Jones' fly ball to right was deep enough for Wood to scamper home and let Pfafman move up 90 feet. He'd even the game at 4-all on an RBI single from Vaughn.

CTX responded with a walk, double and single, restabling its cushion at 6-4.

In the home half of the sixth, Anthony Ybarra and Stanley followed Klingenstein's double to load the bases, with a hit-by-pitch and bunt single, respectively. A fielder's choice and a balk by the Tornados' pitcher knotted the contest at 6-6. Greaff worked his way around the bases on the balk and a wild pitch, 90-feet from putting the home side in front, with one-out in the frame. He crossed the plate when Wood fought off a tough 3-2 offering and grounding out to the right side of the infield.

Greaff tallied the first LETU run, scoring on a two-out double down the left-field line by Jones in the third, cutting the gap to 2-1.

Shane Salzman tossed a scoreless ninth to secure the victory and earn his second save of the season.

LETU embarks on a three-game weekend series at league leading ETBU, beginning Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in Marshall, Texas.
