Jackets Sweep Eagles in Final Homestand

LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU softball clinched a spot in the American Southwest Conference postseason tournament Saturday as it took down Ozarks in its final regular season game, 7-2.

The YellowJackets await to see the first round pairings for the ASC Championship which will begin May 5 in Cleveland, Miss. at Delta State University.

In a day that honored seven LETU softball seniors, the YellowJackets carried its momentum from yesterday's pair of contests to garner the series sweep, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the opening inning.

Madelyn Tannery singled to left center, sending Emilee Anderson in for a score for run one. Alysa Torres collected an RBI after singling to right center. LETU led 2-0 heading into the second.

After blanking the Eagles in top of the second, the Jackets extended its lead to four when Kylie Grisham singled to center field for a two run RBI. Anderson and Kiley Banks rounded the bases, accounting for the two runs on the Grisham single.

The Eagles got on board in the top of the fourth, but two runs in the bottom half by LETU erased those runs to keep the lead at four, 6-2. The dynamic hitting duo of Grisham and Torres took responsibility for the two runs as they struck again, flying out to center field for one sacrifice RBI apiece.

Grisham helped put the finishing touches on the win after she singled up the middle for another RBI to secure the YellowJacket sweep on senior day.

The Jackets outhit the Eagles 12-7. Grisham had a season-high four RBIs on the day to lead LETU. Anderson went 4-of-4 at the plate for the second game in the series. Tannery tallied two hits, while Callie Poore, Jade Merrell, Banks, and Torres each had one. Bailey Richey took the win in the circle, working seven innings with seven strikeouts.

LETU finishes the regular season 15-25 overall and 11-19 in the ASC. The Jackets clinch an ASC playoff spot for the third season in a row and the sixth in school history.
