LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU women's tennis downed Ozarks, 6-3, in an American Southwest Conference East division matchup.
In a day that honored the seniors of the LETU women's tennis program, the Jackets didn't disappoint. LETU jumped on Ozarks early in the match, taking a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Madison Morris and
Megan LeBlanc kicked things off for the YellowJackets at the No. 1 slot, cruising past Kaitlin Gutierrez and Annie Nelligan, 8-0. The Eagles tied things up at line three when Jessica Gayle and Yadira Rodriguez defeated
Emma Boulanger and
Clara Brisman.
Bailey Deatherage and
Brandy Weems granted LETU advantage in the fourth spot, taking down Tatum Hatridge and Anna Ryan, 8-4.
In a match that featured three of six singles matches decided by tiebreakers, the YellowJackets hung tough, claiming four of the six singles points.
Deatherage outlasted Rodriguez at the top flight, winning in the tiebreaker set 6-3. Morris tallied another win at No. 2 singles, beating Gutierrez, 6-1, 6-4. LeBlanc downed Nelligan in the third spot, 6-4, 6-0. Weems fought hard at No. 4, ultimately falling to Hatridge in the tiebreaker, 10-8. Boulanger captured a victory at line five, winning against Ryan, 6-4, 6-1. Frazier withstood Brisman in a close match at No. 6, 10-3 in the decisive set.
The YellowJackets continue its ASC East division play as it hosts crosstown rival East Texas Baptist Thursday at 3 p.m.
