Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener

IRVING, Texas -- Following an hour weather delay at the start of the match, the LeTourneau women's soccer team opened the season with a 3-1 loss at University of Dallas on Thursday night.

The teams waited out inclement weather that pushed the start time back an hour. It was the season opener for both LeTourneau (0-1) and Dallas (1-0).

Trailing 1-0 15 minutes into the second half, LeTourneau found the equalizer off the foot of Gabriella Sanchez. On a run out, Drew Lessert tracked the ball down and slotted a pass to Sanchez into the 18-yard box where Sanchez knocked her shot past Dallas keeper Kaitlyn Vess for the score.

The score was Sanchez's second career goal, while it was Lessert's second career assist.

That score lasted 10 minutes before Dallas notched the eventual game-winning goal. In the 71st minute, Dallas' Izzy Barajas snuck one past Yellowjackets keeper Kiersten Reeser to put the host Crusaders ahead for good. Dallas tacked on one more score in the final minute to seal the win.

Reeser made five saves at the net for LeTourneau, while Vess made three for Dallas.

Sanchez led all players with five shots taken and Haley Salazar added two attempts for LeTourneau.
