LETU Volleyball Splits on Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The LeTourneau volleyball team concluded the Rhodes Classic with a split on Saturday inside Mallory Gym. The YellowJackets fell for the first time in the opener with a four-set loss to Westminster, but rallied for a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-22, 25-16) over Wilmington to end the weekend.

Hannah Payan had 14 kills with a .333 hitting percentage to go with six digs in the win over Wilmington. Kaci Monk had seven kills, while Kaylyn Taylor added five kills. Morgan Nix continued her phenomenal play at the libero spot with a match-high 26 digs. Jenna Curran and Allison Smith had two blocks apiece, while Natalie Davenport had 12 assists.

LeTourneau jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set, a run ended by a Nix ace. The YellowJackets held off a Wilmington (2-7) rally late in the set and pulled away for a 25-18 victory.

The second set went back-and-forth until a critical run by LeTourneau gave the YellowJackets the set win. Wilmington led 20-18, but LeTourneau rallied with a 7-2 run to end the frame. A Payan kill capped the stretch to give the YellowJackets a two-set lead.

A six-point run in the third set gave LeTourneau a 13-7 lead and the YellowJackets never looked back to claim their second sweep of the season. LeTourneau hit a match-high .297 in the thrid set.

Against Westminster earlier in the day, LeTourneau dropped the first two sets before taking a 25-7 win in the third. Westminster capped the win with a fourth-set win. Complete stats are currently unavailable for the contest.
