LETU Blanks Second Straight Foe in Draw at Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. -- The LeTourneau women's soccer team completed a second straight shutout as the Yellowjackets played to a 0-0 draw at Belhaven on Thursday evening in non-conference action in Jackson.

LeTourneau (1-1-1) has two shutouts in three matches to begin the year. The tie snapped a brief two-match losing streak to Belhaven (1-1-1) in the all-time series between the former conference foes.

Belhaven had the run of play for the majority of the match, but stellar defense and goalkeeping from LeTourneau's Kiersten Reeser kept the host Blazers off the board. Reeser made three saves in the opening half and finished the night with five as she collected her second shutout of the year.

One of LeTourneau's best opportunities to score came late in the second half. In the 82nd minute, the Yellowjackets quickly reversed field and Drew Lessert cracked an open look from outside the 18-yard box but her attempt went wide of the target. The visitors worked to get a corner kick in the 85th minute and Claire Martinez lofted one towards the box, but the ball just sailed through and Belhaven gathered possession.

The final two minutes saw a frantic attempt by Belhaven, but again the LeTourneau back line and Reeser stood tall. Reeser saved a last-second effort from distance off the foot of Kyla Shaw to complete the clean sheet.

Lessert, Brandy Moran, Heather Fellows, Michelle Olivas, and Camila Andrade each had one shot for LeTourneau. Belhaven keeper Julianne Wilson made two saves as the Blazers held a 13-5 edge in total shots.
