LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau Women's basketball team came back from an 18-point deficit but falls just short of a huge comeback against visiting McMurry.
LeTourneau (6-11, 2-5 ASC) falls to ninth in the conference as McMurry (9-7, 3-7 ASC) takes control of the eighth place.Â
The YellowJackets were first on the board with a free-throw good from
AJ Thomas. The Warhawks then went on a 20-4 run in the next seven minutes grabbing an early 20-5 lead.
Kylie Weeks worked on closing that lead down with her made free-throw and a 3-pointer off the assist from
Kyndall Hardeman.
The YellowJackets kept chipping away at the deficit through the second quarter with a three-point play from Thomas and a fastbreak layup from Hardeman making it a five-point game (20-15) with the visitors on top with 8:56 showing on the clock in the second quarter.
The War Hawks worked their lead to 10 points (38-28) before heading into the locker room. War Hawks' Emily Holland put up 23 first-half points on the Jackets.
The second half started with a pair of layups from
Haylee Jordan and Weeks. The War Hawks ended up winning the third period, extending their lead by one point and carrying an eleven-point lead (52-41) into the fourth.Â
The Jackets fought to bring the game within one by the likes of a Jordan layup and a Weeks 3-pointer. with 1:32 left on the clock, the War Hawks pushed their lead to three (59-56) with a Destiny Matthews jumper.Â
After a few fouls and a couple of made layups from the Jackets, they came a 3-point bucket away with a second left, unfortunately, the desperation shot falls a little left of the bucket securing the McMurry road win.
Hardeman left the night with 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Jordan also scored 11, marking five steals, and six boards from the forward.
Other YellowJacket notables include Weeks with her 10 points and Thomas contributing nine points and five boards.
Holland was held to just second-half points making her total 28 for the War Hawks, to go along with her six rebounds.
